The Movie Every Rebelutionary Needs to See This Summer

Steve Jobs said, “The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller.”

Do you know what the Number 1 bestselling novel in the 19th century was?

It was a book called Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe which shone a light on the truth of slavery and its impact on individuals and society.

“Why are you talking about a book written in the 1800’s?”

I’m glad you asked.

In 1862, when President Abraham Lincoln met author Stowe in Washington D.C., he famously greeted her with the words, “So, you’re the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war!”

One incredibly courageous woman and her harrowing, heartfelt story quite literally, changed the course of history forever (and proved the above quote’s accuracy).

I am about to tell you about a powerful new movie whose weighty message, I believe, is of great importance to our generation. Perhaps this movie will become the next Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the modern piece of storytelling that shines a light on modern day slavery and wakes up the world to the truth. May it be the spark that ignites the fire that burns this atrocious agenda down to the ground once and for all.

Sound of Freedom

Sound of Freedom, based on the incredible true story of Tim Ballard, is coming to select movie theatres on July 4th. Distributed by the studio that brought us The Chosen, the movie stars Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ) and is written and directed by Mexican filmmaker, Alejandro Monteverde. Here is the film’s synopsis:

“After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.”

Angel Studios and the Sound of Freedom team want to get 2 million people in theatres during the opening weekend to represent the 2 million children trafficked every year. Let’s help them meet and surpass that goal!

In the director’s words, “I believe that as a society we need to be aware of the horrors of child trafficking, and my call was to use the power of cinema to bring light and poetry and hope into that darkest corner of humanity — and to wrap it all in one man’s incredible, world-changing odyssey.”

The Crime

To quote Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel) from the movie’s official trailer, which can be seen here.“It [child trafficking] is the fastest growing international crime at work that the world has ever seen. It has already passed the illegal arms trade, and soon it’s gonna pass the drug trade. ‘Cause you can sell a bag of cocaine once, but a child 5 to ten times a day.”

Is your stomach lurching yet? Yep, mine too…This is a horrific crime and I understand that it is uncomfortable and hurts to look at it and even think about it, but we must understand this issue if we are to do anything about it. The Bible tells us in Psalm 127:3, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,” (NKJV). Children should never, ever be misused in this manner, but every day, innocent lives are literally being sucked into the deepest recesses of hell.

Here are just a few statistics that should alarm even the most thick-skinned of us:

• Children make up 27% of all human trafficking victims worldwide.
• Human trafficking is the fastest growing industry in the world, with an estimated $150 billion in profits.
• Human trafficking is the second largest illicit industry in the U.S. (second only to the drug trade).
• An estimated 2 million children are trafficked every year.
• Mexico is the Number 1 trafficker/provider and according to Eduardo Verastegui, the movie’s producer and a Mexican himself, every hour 6 children in Mexico disappear.
• The United States is the Number 1 consumer of child sex in the world (yes, you read that correctly).

The last one does kind of make you wonder why the U.S. has an open border (just take a moment to think about that long and hard). Something to further nourish your long and hard thinking: drawing from her firsthand experience at the Southern Border, whistleblower, Tara Lee Rodas, declared on sworn testimony at the end of April, “My goal is to inspire action to safeguard the lives of migrant children, including the staggering 85,000 that are missing. Today, children will work overnight shifts at slaughterhouses, factories, restaurants to pay their debts to smugglers and traffickers. Today, children will be sold for sex. Today, children will call a hotline to report they are being abused, neglected, and trafficked. For nearly a decade, unaccompanied children have been suffering in the shadows.”

The Story of Operation Underground Railroad

Operation Underground Railroad is the anti-child sex trafficking foundation started by Tim Ballard, its name being inspired by The Underground Railroad—the network of routes, places, and people that helped enslaved people in the American South escape to the North during the Civil War.

Tim spent more than a decade working as a Special Agent for the Department of Homeland Security, where he was assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and deployed as an undercover operative.

While working for the government, Tim saw how little was being done to tackle child trafficking and exploitation across the world. In 2013, he and a team of former government operatives left the security of their careers to build a task force within Operation Underground Railroad that can work in any jurisdiction and in conjunction with law enforcement, to rescue children directly. This team exists today, operates all over the world, and will continue to go to the darkest corners of the world until every child is safe!

It’s Time for a War

You may be asking yourself, “How much longer? How much longer will God stay His hand?”

I believe this is the LORD’s answer, “For the time has come for Me to avenge My people, to ransom them from their oppressors.” (Isaiah 63:4 NLT)

If you saw “Schindler’s List,” the 1993 movie directed by Steven Spielberg that shone a light on the horrific realities of the Holocaust, perhaps you left that experience feeling how terrible it was and if you had been alive at the time, you would have done more than those influencers who by their capitulations to Hitler facilitated the systematic murder of 6 million Jews.

Well, this is your chance—you can do something now. Now we have a movie of equal import dealing with an issue not in the past but the present. We can end this together and for the sake of the millions of children crying out for freedom, we must not fail.

So, in the words uttered by the right-hand man to Ballard in the film, “When God tells you what to do, you cannot hesitate.”

We must not hesitate, and we must not despair. There is still hope, “for it is written ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord,” (Romans 12:19, NKJV).

In the movie Braveheart, when asked where he was going, William Wallace answered, “I’m going to pick a fight!”
