1. Live the Message

The Rebelution is a grassroots movement. It doesn’t depend on leadership. You don’t need to sign up for anything. The movement lives on as long as any young person anywhere is rebelling against low expectations, stepping outside his or her comfort zone, and doing hard things for the glory of God. In other words, getting involved is as simple as living out the message right where you are.

Take Action:
  • Get off the computer and do that thing you’ve been procrastinating about.
  • Choose an important cause and give some of your money away.
  • Volunteer the next time someone asks for help.
  • Reach out to someone less fortunate than you.

2. Read the Manifesto

Every movement needs a manifesto. Written when Alex and Brett were eighteen, Do Hard Things presents the message of The Rebelution in its purest and most compelling form. If you want to understand where the movement came from and where it is going, read this book.

Take Action:
  • Order “Do Hard Things” online from Amazon (affiliate link) or ChristianBook.
  • Purchase “Do Hard Things” from your local bookstore.
  • If finances are tight, check out your public library.
  • If the library doesn’t carry it, request they get a copy.

3. Study the Field Guide

If you’re ready to get practical about doing hard things, Start Here is for you. Where Do Hard Things is an inspiring call to action, Start Here is a hands-on guidebook for living the message. This book will teach you how to formulate a project, execute it, and deal with the challenges you’ll face along the way.

Take Action:
  • Order “Start Here” online from Amazon (affiliate link) or ChristianBook.
  • Purchase “Start Here” from your local bookstore.
  • If finances are tight, check out your public library.

5. Watch the Conference Videos

The Do Hard Things Conference tour reached over 50,000 teens, parents, and youth workers between 2007 and 2011 and was hosted by respected churches across the United States — including Bethlehem Baptist and Moody Bible Church.

Now you can experience the Do Hard Things Conference for yourself — as well as share it with family and friends — in the form of four professionally-recorded video sessions.

6. Organize a Book Study

Introduce your friends to The Rebelution by organizing a book study through Do Hard Things and getting together regularly to discuss what you’re reading. Consider leading the discussion yourself or asking your parents or youth pastor to help. The newest edition of the book includes a built-in study guide and discussion questions. You can get a great price for case orders on our Group Orders page.

Take Action:
  • Talk with your parents about hosting a book study.
  • Invite your friends to join you and figure out a good time to meet.
  • Order copies of Do Hard Things for everyone and get reimbursed.
  • Come up with a reading schedule that is doable for everyone.

7. Take the “100 Hard Things” Challenge

Are you serious about doing hard things? Then take this challenge: Over the next few months, chronicle at least one hard thing you do each day. Your goal is to count all the way to 100 in three months. This is a great way to develop a habit of pushing yourself. If it sounds hard, that’s the point.

You can do this in a private journal, on your blog, or on Facebook or Twitter (#100hardthings). Entries can be as simple as “15. Finished my homework” or as complicated as “16. Organized a fundraiser.” They don’t have to be big, as long as they pushed you outside your comfort zone. Sometimes the hardest things are the smallest things. Check out the action items below to get started:

Take Action:
  • Make your first entry: “1. Accepted the ‘100 Hard Things’ Challenge.”
  • Choose your platform (e.g. choose/buy a journal, post on Facebook, etc.)
  • Tell your parents, pastor, or friend about the challenge.
  • Invite a friend to take the challenge with you.

8. Spread the Word

The Rebelution grows when new people visit this website, read the books, or otherwise learn about the message. You can make that happen by talking about it with your pastor, youth pastor, and teachers. You can recommend the website, give away copies of Do Hard Things, or help spread the message on Facebook or Twitter. The possibilities are as limitless as your personal creativity.

Take Action:
  • Send an email to your pastor or youth pastor.
  • Give a copy of “Do Hard Things” to a friend.
  • Update your Facebook cover photo.
  • Share your favorite “Do Hard Things” quotes on Facebook and Twitter.

9. Launch a “Do Hard Things” Project

The Rebelution is fueled by some pretty big ideas — but they are ideas that lead to action. If you want to help turn low expectations for teenagers upside down, consider organizing a youth-led project in your community. Maybe it’s a walk-a-thon to raise money for an important cause or maybe it’s a food drive for your local homeless shelter. Whatever it is, the important thing is that it takes you and your friends outside your comfort zones and shows the world that young people can make a difference.

Take Action:
  • Identify a need in your church, community, or world.
  • Pray for God to give you wisdom about what to do about it
  • Get counsel from your parents and pastors
  • Invite your friends to join you.

10. Submit Your Articles

Are you a budding writer? Do you have your own blog? Consider writing for The Rebelution. You can submit existing works or write something exclusively for our website. This is a great way to encourage thousands of young people and grow as a writer.

Take Action:
  • Think about whether you have any existing works to share.
  • Brainstorm any new topics you could write about.
  • Write up your article with around 600-800 words.
  • Submit your article using our Submit Content Form.
